This was an excellent sequel to "The Shining. The film expertly shows the continuation of addiction passed from father to son. It features astounding performances and even better cinematography. It completes the Torrance family tree and provides sufficient closure to the question many people have been asking since 1980. "What ever did happen to Danny Torrance.
Just came back from the prescreening. This sequel went in a totally new direction but still had elements that tied it to The Shining. Starts out a little bit of everywhere and wasn't sure where it was headed but it definitely starts to pick up in a whole new direction. For a sequel to one of the best classic films, it did great. I had high expectations because of Mike Flanagan but was unsure cause it's living up to The Shining and it was better than that. I'd say watch it, it was refreshing but familiar.

This movie was excellent, Mike Flanagan did an exceptional job on knowing exactly when the right scares were needed, how much screen time each character got and when to put in the perfect shining reference.
Let's start off with the acting, tremendous job by Ewan McGregor on playing Danny Torrance years after the Shining as a drunk man trying to escape his past, the main enemy, Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson) did a somewhat decent performance although her character felt very plain but she also had exactly the right screen time so this didn't really bother me but the best performance from this movie was by Kyliegh Curran who played the little girl who can also shine, one of the best child performances I've seen in a movie as she kept the viewer interested in her character.
I was walking into the cinema thinking this would be a decent film that only appealed to fans of The Shining but Mike Flanagan did a perfect job on not shoving references in our faces, they were perfect and he saved most of them for the final act which really played out well to with the big finale, it added way more excitement to the final fight. The film was scary and disturbing in various scenes which is exactly what a horror movie fan wants to see because not all horror these days movies succeed in scaring because we've seen the common jump scares all before. In conclusion, this movie was excellent definitely one of the highlights of this 2019, I recommend it for most people whether they're Shining fans or not, it would just be far more enjoyable for someone who sees the cinematic genius of The Shining.
